In a twisting dogfight at about 600 miles an hour, a 16mm movie camera mounted on the F-86 Saber jet flown by USAF jet ace, Captain James W. Jabara, pictures a Russian-made MiG-15 using evasive tactics to escape the American’s zone of fire. Shortly after these photographs were taken the Communist pilot bailed out after his plane had taken a crippling burst. Photograph released June 1, 1951. Originally, a U.S. Air Force Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives. (6/16/2015)
