Aircraft at NAS Ford Island on 8 December 1941
View looking toward the southern end of the U.S. Naval Air Station Ford Island on 8 December 1941, the day after the Japanese raid on Pearl Harbor. The planes present include at least seven Vought OS2U Kingfisher, two Curtiss SOC Seagull, one Consolidated PBY-5 Catalina, one Grumman F4F-3 Wildcat and two Douglas TBD-1 Devastator. One of the TBDs may be BuNo 0289, which was flown by Ensign Theodore W. Marshall, USNR, during his attempt to follow Japanese planes back to their carriers on 7 December. He was awarded the Silver Star for the effort.
