Part of a collection of three maps showing data visualization in the manner of Minard, our 10613.000, 10614.000 and 10615.000 "The third, and perhaps the most sophisticated, map of the collection has a title which translates as a ‘Pictorial Representation of the Use of Materials with Details of the Types of Materials while Maintaining the State Roads of the Kingdom of Württemberg in 1860’. The map employs the same template as the other two maps yet focuses on the nature of the materials used to build the road system, as opposed to traffic volumes. As explained in the ‘Farben-Erklärung’ (Explanation of Colours), the map employs bright hues to identify the 14 different road building materials employed for all the segments of the road system across the state. These materials range from granite to limestones to Jura stone to gravel. Moreover, the width of the road segments is explained by the note beneath the graphic in the lower part of the map that reads ‘Die den Strassenzügen beigesezten Zahle
