Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center and World War II Nisei veterans on their 75th anniversary of the Military Intelligence Service at Crissy Field on the Presidio of San Francisco, California on November 12, 2016 - 7

Col. Phil Deppert, commandant of the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center, and the National Japanese American Historical Society paid tribute to World War II Nisei veterans on their 75th anniversary of the Military Intelligence Service at Crissy Field in San Francisco Nov. 12. The Military Intelligence Service Historic Learning Center is located inside the abandoned airplane hangar where a small group of officers started a small school to teach the Japanese language at the Presidio of San Francisco in November 1941. That school would grow over time to become the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center. (U.S. Army photo by Patrick Bray/Released)
