Delegate Ribbon from the Democratic National Convention Held in St. Louis
Delegate ribbon from the 1916 Democratic National Convention held in St. Louis. One major issue on the convention's docket was addressing women?s suffrage. As a show of force and an effort to remind delegates that women?s voices were stifled without the vote, thousands of women silently lined the route to the convention hall. Their efforts were rewarded when convention delegates voted to ?recommend the extension of the franchise to the women of the country by the States upon the same terms as to men.? This ribbon was worn by an unknown delegate to the convention.
