Downman Road NOLA before WPA work houses 1940
New Orleans, 1940. Downman Road, Eastern New Orleans, before widening and repaving by the Works Progress Administration. Original caption: "Downman Road is now a narrow, rutty thoroughfare connecting the airport with the Chef Highway. Increased activity at the N. O. Airport in connection with national defense will make the construction of a new outlet necessary and it is proposed to construct two 28-foot concrete roadways with a four-foot neutral ground. These views show Downman Road from U. S. 90 to the airport. Exterior."
