DPAA conducts recovery mission in Italy

Tech. Sgt. Erik Merrill, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) Life Support investigator (LSI), looks through possible life support equipment and other material evidence during a recovery mission in Italy, June 23, 2023. Merrill worked closely with the scientific recovery expert in order to locate possible human remains and narrow the recovery team’s search area during the excavation. Merrill was part of a 26-member recovery team searching for possible human remains from World War II, of which there are approximately 72,000 service members unaccounted for.
