Group of female immigrants who had arrived on ship "Benalla"
2 September 1914.1. Microfiche incorrectly states women were Irish. It was Box 12 not Box 6 (G Brooks) 2. An inspection of the property on Friday 28 August 2009 by J. Davis confirmed that this photograph was taken in the back yard of 5 Charles Street, Norwood. The side verandah seen in the image is still there, though the glass house has gone. The group was facing north when the photograph was taken. The property was used as the Government Receiving Home For Female Immigrants between 1913 and 1915 inclusively
