IONIA, Near East death ship
5 x 7 in. or smaller. --- Description from record: "Photograph shows the ship Ionia, which arrived at Piraeus, Greece in February, 1923, from Trebizond (now Trabzon), Turkey, with thousands of refugees. Some died of typhus and smallpox enroute. The voyage, which was in charge of the Near East Relief organization, may have been part of the 1923 population exchange between Greece and Turkey.
