J. Lane and Miss B. William, LUSITANIA

5 x 7 in. or smaller. “J.Lane” seems to be recte George Benjamin Lane as there is no other passenger named “J.Lane” in the official passenger records of the RMS Lusitania. They show Mr. George Benjamin Lane, a 26-year-old second class passenger, traveling together with Miss Beatrice Williams as members of the Gwent Royal Welsh Singers. Following the tragic sinking of the ship in 1915, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published a detailed account of the surviving choir members. The news reports explicitly listed G.B.Lane as one of the survivors who helped in the rescue of the choir's director. Hence, the “J.” in the original title is most likely a transcription error. cf.
