Mardi Gras Pirates New Orleans Louisiana WPA
New Orleans Mardi Gras, 1930s. A group of young men, some in pirate costumes, others in the fashion of the era. One of the "pirates" drinks from a bottle while they pose for the photographer. Original description: " Streets full of young people; some in pirate costumes. Mardi Gras in New Orleans, Louisiana. ": Notes: A portion of the marquee of a cinema is visible in the background, on which can be read "CONSTANCE CUMMINGS 7 SINNERS". This no doubt refers to the UK release version of the film "Seven Sinners", which starred Constance Cummings (as opposed to the 1940 US remake). Per imdb it debuted in the US in August 1936, which suggests this photo would date to Mardi Gras 1937.
