1865 engraving, made after Lincoln's assassination, showing Lincoln as equal to Washington. Washington holds "Constitution", while Lincoln holds "Emancipation". Both are supporting the shield (coat of arms) of the United States, above a sword and a cannon. Main text in the drawing: "Under Providence, Washington made, and Lincoln saved, our country". * A smaller version of no. 1865-7, issued later the same year and printed from one rather than two lithographic stones. In this version the figure of Lincoln is more convincingly drawn, but the continent is cropped and misshapen. A scroll with the words "Our Country" crosses the shield held by Washington, holding the Consitution, and Lincoln, holding the Emancipation proclamation. The words "Washington made under providence and Lincoln saved" appear above the figures. *.) * Rights Advisory: on publication. *.C. 20540 USA * Notes: ** Title from print. ** "Entered. 1865 by E rick Shogren. Illinois." ** The Library's impress
