Operation Torch, 1942. America at War - The Voyage on the Contessa

Lot 4102-16: Operation Torch, 1942. America at War: The Voyage on the Contessa. These four sailors give an indication of how the crew of the Contessa, a U.S. merchant ship that played a unique and dangerous role in the Allied North African landings, represent many United Nations. The four and their countries, left to right, are: Joseph Mohamed, India; Louis Borcelli, an American of Italian descent; John Locarelli, an American of Italian descent, and Harry Haylock, ship’s carpenter whose home is Hondoras. Collection of the Office of War Information, 1946. (7/24/2015).
