Produce wagon in city

4 x 5 in. or smaller. This is a 1923 photograph of Green Court, a once-infamous alley near Thomas Circle in Washington, D.C. The photograph captures the innocuous exterior of The Krazy Kat speakeasy, a so-called "den of vice" occupying the second floor of the far-right, double-doored building during the Jazz Age. Before transforming into a speakeasy in the 1920s, the building served in earlier decades as a horse stable for visitors to Washington, D.C., with its upper doors used for loading hay. Visible in the distance directly above the speakeasy building is the dome of Portland Flats—one of Washington's first luxury apartment buildings and demolished in 1962. The only surviving structure in this photograph is the edifice on the extreme right, now home to The Green Lantern, a gay bar.
