Scottish Co-operative Wholesale Society soap competition dinner
Photograph of a Scottish Co-operative Wholesale Society soap competition dinner in the 1930s. I have no idea what a soap competition is. "The prizes for the competition are ladies and gents bicycles, tricycles and prams. In front of a banner announcing 'SCWS Soap Competition' is the main table, facing the other tables and guests. The presence of cutlery settings and cake stands suggests high tea is being provided (main course, bread and jam, cakes and, of course, tea). The location might be the Grand Hotel, Charing Cross, Glasgow. The Scottish Co-operative Wholesale Society (SCWS) had a large soap factory in Grangemouth."
