South Sheffield & Kirtland Hall, Yale University, New Haven, Conn

South Sheffield Hall, background, and Kirtland Hall, foreground, buildings of the Sheffield Scientific School. South Sheffield was originally built as a hotel by James A. Hillhouse and became home to the "Medical Institution" (later Yale School of Medicine) until 1860. It was given expanded wings and a tower by Joseph Sheffield, whose renovation made it a home for the Sheffield Scientific School. The building was demolished in 1931.
