Staff Ride Traces D‑Day History at Omaha Beach and First Army HQ

Maj. Kevin Braafladt, First Army command historian, delivers a terrain brief at Omaha Beach, France, June 4, 2026, during a staff ride focused on the D‑Day landings. The brief examined the decisions made by Allied leaders and the actions that enabled the breakout from the beachhead. The U.S. Army proudly participates annually in the D‑Day anniversary commemorations in Normandy, France, through ceremonies, engagements, and commemorative events across the region, enduring the legacy of Allied forces who participated in Operation Overlord on June 6, 1944.
