WH Taft private study
Photo of President Taft's private study, today known as the Treaty Room. The flag in the back is a presidential flag from the Army (the Navy had a separate version) with 46 stars, which was used starting in 1908 before changing to a 48-star version in 1912. The painting on the wall on the left is Signing of the Peace Protocol Between Spain and the United States, August 12, 1898 by Théobald Chartran, an event which took place in this room, and the painting still hangs there. The desk in front is the Resolute Desk.
