Brooklyn (1905 ferry)
The municipal ferryboat Brooklyn, built in 1905 for the City of New York. Brooklyn was one of five Borough-class ferryboats built in 1905, each of which was named after a borough of the city. According to Cudahy, the large number of well-dressed people aboard in this photo indicates that the ferry is on an excursion of some sort rather than operating in her regular service (Cudahy, Brian J. (1990). Over and Back: The History of Ferryboats in New York Harbor. New York: Fordham University Press. p. 164).
