Union Pacific BIG BOY vs C&O Allegheny (in photo above)

When it comes to the largest and/or most powerful steam locomotive in the world there are two camps. More than a few say the 2-6-6-6 Allegheny for Chesapeake and Ohio Railway (C&O) is hands down THE most powerful steam locomotive. And in the next camp is the BIG BOY supporters. That's the camp I'm in. So as far as I am concerned since the only two surviving Alleghenies don't run and are in museums, Big Boy is the winner as the most powerful. Go to the link below. It gives a Dimensional Comparison of Large Articulated/Mallet type Locomotives for those of you that like to crunch spec. numbers. www.steamlocomotive.com/locobase.php?country=USA&whee. Last but not least check this out, another restoration underway. trn.trains.com/news/news-wire/2019/06/07-western-maryland.
